In the mornings I usually have a KIND granola bar and coffee. If I eat my granola bar first my coffee doesn’t taste sweet enough. Just like eating a candy bar makes a soda not taste sweet. I usually eat then together and that tastes fine. I have coffee left over to sip on and it takes a little while before the coffee taste sweet again.

If we eat or drink too much from this world it can dull our taste for the things of God. Just like it took time to taste the sweetness of the coffee, it may take some time to get our taste back so we can taste the sweetness of the things of God. The coffee was still the same degree of sweetness, but my perception of it changed when the sweetness of the granola bar was not influencing my taste. Be aware that the world can distort your perception of God’s sweetness.

Psalm 34:8

taste and see that the Lord is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.
How sweet are thy words unto my taste! yea, sweeter than honey to my mouth!
More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.
